Desire Lines

We are starting off June really well with Project Kinaesthesia presenting Desire Lines, a film screening that will debut on 11 and 18 June at PLAYinc!

It is a collaboration between three dancers (Rachel, Daphne and Madhu), two musicians, an illustrator, and a documenter over the course of six months to craft a short film that traces the memories we leave in the different spaces around Singapore.

As part of the experience, you will be surrounded by live music, dancers and plenty of opportunities to connect and be inspired.

Beyond the film screening, you can expect discussions, activities and even food and drinks — all for only S$10! Desire Lines will also be hosting a workshop for dancers to experience the ideation process through some fun and simple exploration.

Recognize! Recital 2023 Auditions

We’re also kicking off the month of June with the return of R! Recital.

After a prolonged pandemic hiatus, Recognize! Studios is bringing back the 7th edition of the recital which will be taking place on 12 November 2023 at the UCC Auditorium.

In preparation for that, the auditions will be conducted throughout the month of June during the instructors’ open classes. This takes away from the pressures of a one-take video audition or a two-attempt live audition as you have multiple opportunities to attend class and even display your progress through the month!

The results will be released the first week of July and the experience will incur a S$150 recital fee if you are selected. The choreographers and genres in this year’s recital are available below:

All you have to do is register your interest in the form here and take note of the open class schedule for the month.

R! Recital offers a platform for dancers to train, learn and perform, and for instructors and guest artists to showcase their choreography skills.

If you’re still not convinced, we cover more on recitals and why you should consider joining one here.

Recognize! Studios Open House

Besides the Recital Auditions, Recognize! is also hosting its open house on 10 and 11 June.

Designed to accommodate dancers from various dance backgrounds, the open house offers dancers the opportunity to try, explore and push their limits with the diverse dance styles available. The discounted prices provide another good reason to come by the open house.

At S$7 per class or S$35 for unlimited classes on both days, take the opportunity to try out different styles and learn from choreographers whose classes you’ve always wanted to attend!

Make sure to bring along your friends and immerse yourself in the joy of dance! Of course, there will be classes catered for the kids to experience street dance at an introductory pace, focusing on easy-to-learn and entertaining dance fundamentals. What’s more, kids’ classes will be completely free of charge!

Something for everybody, there’s absolutely no reason to miss the open house. Slots are now open for booking here!

The program includes shows, classes, workshops and the company’s mid-year intensive. For its 13th edition, the festival draws us back to the essence of dance: the body as instrument, and movement as language.

Embryo

Finally, Amalgam presents Embryo on 25 June to end the month!

Embryo is going to be a visual and movement-stimulated experience, in collaboration with Stirring Ground and ScRach MaRcs.

Defined as “a thing at a rudimentary stage that shows potential for development”, it explores the social constructs that hold little relevance to us and takes the audience on an emotional rollercoaster to explore the depths of the human mind and its perceptions of social structures.

Staged at Singapore Repertory Theatre, join the performers as they enter a new realm where visual arts meet movement, a playing field where creative minds cross paths.
