IGNITE! is back, bigger than ever with some of the best local acts this weekend.
Run by students of Republic Polytechnic, the one-and-only IGNITE! Music Festival has made a comeback after its last edition in 2022. Since its launch in 2008, IGNITE! has seen over 60 local bands and artists including Disco Hue, brb, Club Mild and many more. Free and open-to-all, the festival has brought in more than 270,000 audience members over the past 15 years. With themes of passion and compassion this year, IGNITE! 2024 aims to share the essence of youth volunteerism by providing a platform for both their audiences and performers to bond over what they really care about – Music.

“We curated this year’s festival by finding a balance between trends and what the youth want to see as well as acts considering acts who have established themselves in their own right. Many of the bands this year are either entirely new bands who have not performed at IGNITE! before, or bands that haven't graced our stage in a while. IGNITE! 2024 provides something for everyone with their variety of festival programmes. For aspiring musicians and bands, the IGNITE! Band Auditions and IGNITE! Open Mic provide a platform to showcase their talent and gain experience performing for the festival. Not forgetting the IGNITE! Sessions as well, which allow budding artists to gain valuable insights about performance, songwriting, musical arrangements and much more.
On the other hand, festival goers can enjoy exciting performances during programmes like IGNITE! Tribute V, by Republic Polytechnic’s very own Jammerz Arena, Replug and Rhapsody which took place on 16 July.
The highlight of the festival, IGNITE! Mainstage is set to take place on the 26th and 27th of July and will feature a total of 14 bands over these two days. Held at the The Republic Culture Centre, the Mainstage will showcase singer-songwriters such as Elaine and ICEBOX in the TRCC Studio and acts such as motifs, Shazza, Benjamin Kheng and Subsonic Eye in the TRCC Theatre. It’s always a good time playing at IGNITE! It’s pretty interesting that we experienced every era of it. One of the best shows we ever played was the one in 2019 when it was still held at the outdoor area. Then we also did the livestream one during Circuit Breaker which was pretty fun too.
