The maiden US tour will start on 11 June in Los Angeles and end on 21 June in Boston.
Singaporean indie rock band Subsonic Eye has announced their first-ever maiden US tour which will take place in June 2022.
Beginning their journey in Los Angeles on 11 June and closing in Boston on 21 June, the band will also be travelling to cities like San Francisco, Portland, Seattle, New York, Philadelphia and Washington DC.
Last year, the indie band released their third studio album, ‘Nature Of Things’, which represents “coming to terms with their place in this strange world” and “came about through wanting a more raw and bare sound”, as per Bandwagon. The critically acclaimed album had also won Best Album By An Asian Artist in the all-new Asia categories at the BandLab NME Awards 2022.
In raising funds for the tour, the band will be holding a concert this 13 May 2022 at Gateway Theatre, dubbed ‘Subsonic Eye and Friends’. Presented by Bandwagon Live, the act will be joined by fellow labelmates of Middle Class Cigars, namely Sobs and Cosmic Child.
Subsonic Eye shared with The Straits Times that they have no expectations for the tour and thought it would be fun. Adding on to that, they also “hope it will sort of emphasise Singapore on the indie-rock map”.
The indie band recently dropped a two-track EP titled ‘Dijangka / Matahari’, inspired by vocalist Nur Wahidah and guitarist Daniel Castro Borces’ relationship. Unlike the rest of their discography, the lyrics are sung in Malay, which is a first for the band.
Subsonic Eye was built on pure passion and genuine friendships — taking a relaxed, collaborative approach to their music by letting things flow naturally. Known for their distinct sound, the musicians combine stylings of rock, emo, post-punk and folk. Their warm and explorative tracks are juxtaposed with poetic lyrics that focus on freedom, intimacy, ecological grief, adolescent anger and more.
The homegrown band was formed in 2015 when a demo exchange occurred between Daniel Borces who plays the guitar and singer Nur Wahidah. Afterwhich, Jared Lim, also on the guitar, bassist Spencer Tan and drummer Lucas Lee joined the band. A year later, the indie band was part of the National Arts Council’s Noise Music Mentorship programme.
In 2017, Subsonic Eye’s first album ‘Strawberry Feels’ was released with 10 tracks about love stories and tragic tales. Other than doing local gigs, the band have also done tours in regional countries like Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines.
