From fashion runways to barbie showcases, here are the best local fashion events to attend in the month of October.
Paris Fashion Week SS23 has proven that there are no boundaries when it comes to fashion, presenting to us some of the best standout shows we’ve seen in decades. At centre stage of it all, Balenciaga.
The Spanish luxury house’s soil covered venue mimicking a filthy dystopian building site symbolic of oppression had people turning heads and invested in the show — fashion junkie or not — as pieces such as a dress reworked entirely from Balenciaga’s city bags went viral all over socials.
Coupled with the never before seen sprayed-on dress by trailblazers Coperni on Bella Hadid, Fashion week proved to be one for the history books this year. And if you find yourself hooked into the world of fashion since the revelation of instant spray-on fabric on everyone’s favourite it-girl, OR perhaps you identify as a seasoned fashionista, Dreamfellas has a list of local fashion events you need to attend, riding off the high of a dramatic close on Paris Fashion Week, here in sunny Singapore.
‘Hermès In The Making’ Pop-up at Marina Bay Sands
Hermes’ latest travelling exhibition entitled, ‘Hermès In The Making’ invites guests to enter their whimsical world to discover how the french luxury design house crafts their most coveted wearables — from the Kelly bag to exquisite silk scarves and more. As you step into the showcase’s inviting open-plan space, be greeted by vibrant hues of orange and the wondrous sights of nine live demo stations that draw inspiration from a craftsman’s workbench. There you’ll find French artisans who will demonstrate a myriad of crafts such as bag making, silk printing and porcelain painting just to name a few.
If you’ve got nothing planned this weekend, we recommend giving this pop-up a visit for a leisurely afternoon filled with enrichment and entertainment.
Hermes In The Making runs from Oct 1 to 9, from 12 to 8 pm, at Marina Bay Sands Event Plaza.

#SGFASHIONNOW
Marvel at the ingenious works of local designers at #SGFASHIONNOW, an experimental fashion showcase held at The Asian Civilisation Museum, housing works by the best talent our Island can offer. You may be familiar with the names of Harry Halim and Shawna Wu, as these designers have styled superstars like Charli XCX and Cardi B, which brought these creators global success and in turn a well-deserved spotlight on their works. With the showcase, you’ll now get the chance to view their handiwork up-close alongside a stunning display of designs from young local talent like Linda Osman and Max Tan, whose vibrant pieces light up the room.
Centred around the exhibition’s theme of ‘draping’, expect a plethora of intrepid designs from the reimagination of traditional clothing into modern silhouettes like corsets and jumpsuits. And if you can’t get enough of the island city’s creative scene, we recommend tuning in to a talk by veteran designer Ashley Isham and emerging talent Laikta Balachander — both of which have their works displayed in the exhibition — who will be sharing tidbits of their experiences as fashion designers while based overseas as well as their time in Singapore over Zoom on 5 October 2022.
#SGFASHIONNOW runs from 8 July till 16 October 2022 at The Asian Civilisation Museum, 1 Empress Pl, Singapore 179555. Book a visit here.
House Of Dreams Barbie Exhibition
Let your inner child run free at the House of Dreams Barbie Exhibition, a showcase that sees an extensive list of six hundred iconic Barbie memorabilia, courtesy of Mattel and Jian Yang, an entrepreneur and avid Barbie collector. Dolled up in red carpet-ready wear from renowned design houses like Valentino, Louis Vuitton Christian Louboutin, viewers are in for a treat as these dolls boast flair and extravagance. The line-up of barbies feature a star-studded cast of idols you may recognise, like Elvis, Shakira and even Audrey Hepburn.
But beyond the glitz and glamour that is synonymous with mattel’s most famed toy line, the exhibition strives to bring forth messages of inclusivity and empowerment, representing not only different skin tones, but body types and careers through their dressing. What’s more, some of the dolls will be flaunting dresses made by homegrown lifestyle and fashion labels like Love Bonito, In Good Company and Bynd Artisan — as seen above. If there’s anything that this showcase affirms, it’s that Barbiecore fever is real and here to stay.
House of Dreams will run from 20 September to 21 October 2022 at ION Art Gallery, L4, ION Orchard, 238801.
