If you stand by empowerment for women, you don’t have to look any further! The Ladies Call returns for their fifth edition to host masterclass workshops, battles and guest showcases. Starting out with weekly training, cyphers and sessions, The Ladies Call has evolved into one of the most anticipated local and international events. The event has actually reached Vietnam and Taiwan! They started off this year with a Ladies Hip Hop session in March, with all proceeds going to the Ukraine dance community. Moving on to the main events on 25 and 27 November, they have local and international judges for masterclass workshops, battles, and will also have a guest showcase.
Established 7 years ago, The Ladies Call was created to put focus while providing a platform and safe space for female Hip Hop dancers to unite in dance. Founded by Xiao Mei, The Ladies Call organizes dance events that are created specifically for the female youth, to encourage female participation as well as to provide more growing opportunities and platform for their dance.
Firstly, we have the Female Hip Hop 1 v 1 Battle! The battle will take place on 26 November and will be judged by the international judges. This amazing lineup of women include Martha, Megu and Zurek! Martha Nabwire, hailing all the way from Uganda, is actually a returning judge for The Ladies Call. Also a returning judge, Megu (Gallager) is coming from Japan!
Secondly, there is also a new Female Hip Hop 3 v 3 added to the fifth edition! Understanding that they have dancers with less experience attending the event and wanting to utilize the platform, this category is added so dancers aren’t as intimidated to take part. This battle is, however, limited to 30 teams and registrations opened on 10 October, 12pm so there’s no time to waste!
The 3 v 3 is judged by Toppy, Bunny J and De.lyt. The runner-up for Volume Four of The Ladies Call, Toppy Phatsaraporn returns from Thailand this year and now as a judge! Bunny J, a judge from the first edition, also returns from Malaysia this year. Lastly, the only individual representing Singapore, Denise, will be the final judge of the battle!
Lastly, Poland’s Monika Łaskarzewska Żurek will be judging The Ladies Call for the first time. She will be holding workshops for the first time in Asia, alongside Martha and Megu, on 25 and 27 November. All workshops have since sold out so you already know it’s going to be such an insane and exclusive experience for those attending.
Now, while the lineup for the guest showcase has yet to be released, they did announce that Lum Lum will be the emcee of the event! Her energy is welcomed and well-loved anywhere, so we can expect the Ladies Call weekend to be powerful, exhilarating and oh-so-lively for three whole days. Not forgetting the amazing music provided by DJ Bolo and DJ Isaac for the battles! Still not convinced? (I know you already are!) Here’s the Volume Four highlights so you know what you’re getting yourself into and the opportunities you shouldn’t forgo.
Ladies, time to turn up and shine! There’s really no reason not to attend. Even if you didn’t get a workshop slot, or you don’t plan on joining the battles, the event’s one to add into the books. There’s going to be so much passion, love and inspiration in the air — something worth experiencing even as an audience!
