Hari Raya Puasa marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan and is a celebration of victory in overcoming personal struggles while embracing forgiveness and strengthening the bonds among family members and relatives. During this time is when we see families in traditional and matching outfits to distinguish couples and/or families, harmonious reunions, and endless types of kuehs to munch on!

As it is a religious celebration, it is essential to dress modestly and appropriately. This means that there are usually plenty of traditional outfits like the kebaya, baju kurung, baju Melayu and batik. However, with the evolution of fashion, we now get to see many different renditions and modern takes on cultural Raya clothing!

So look no further as we share some of our favourite boutiques and labels to shop from this coming Raya.

Known for its clean, effortless, and minimalist approach, you definitely want to look out for Anaabu’s pieces. However, don’t underestimate their attention to detail and dedication to concept.

The brand is sustainable and features genderless fashion in its clothing, with generally muted palettes and clean silhouettes. This makes them an easy option for families, especially with their kids’ site!

Their theme this year is Sukma, Tanah dan Air. Through each generation, there are songs and messages that are embedded within us, so our different languages should not deter us from being one with the other. Through this collection, Anaabu illuminates their history, identity and roots through the celebration of the past, for tomorrow and always.

Another brand from Malaysia features modest clothing in a dreamy ‘cottage core’ aesthetic that has gained them a highly dedicated customer base.

Think pastels, lace and ruffles, florals, embroidery, and cute and relaxed silhouettes — perfect for girly girls. And fret not, as they have something for the boys too.

Something unique we’ve noticed is that while they have a variety of options for the whole family, only the girls match while the guys match but not altogether — which is a great way to add some variety and break up the patterns in the family photos.
